Alison began her career in the NHS in 1968, firstly as a nurse and then in 1979 she moved into midwifery. During the years of practice as a midwife came the recognition of the powerful ability of the body and mind to alter a process as dynamic as birth, which could not be understood using a modern medical model. This would eventually lead her to change her path and to train in acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

Most of the problems which arise during pregnancy can be treated or improved by acupuncture. Some of these include:

Pregnancy is a unique time in a woman's life. Antenatal yoga taught at Islington Yoga addresses the fundamental needs of a woman and her child during

this time. Stance work is given to carry the child well during the pregnancy and to develop the strength necessary for delivery. Coordinated movement of the arms and the breathing brings release from neck and shoulder tension often experienced during pregnancy. This also builds the strength in the arms for carrying and nursing the child. When nursing it is common to suffer from shoulder tension and neck pain. Simple arm movements coordinated with the breath provide relief from these physical tensions and also from mental fatigue. The movements are refreshing for the mind.

In the comfort of your own home, Shann, from Let's Talk Baby, will discuss everything you would like and need to know about pregnancy, birth and the post natal period. If required, Shann will also guide you through what equipment and things you will need to buy before the birth of your baby. This can be used as stand-alone information or in conjunction with other antenatal classes

Information is tailored to the needs of each individual. Your consultancy can focus on any one aspect of pregnancy, labour or birth, or it can give a broader overview of all these areas. It's all about what you feel is relevant to your needs and to your pregnancy.
